Lincoln Center Event: Shifting Balance: Reflections on Land, Climate, and Beauty

The artwork of Colorado State University’s Department of Art and Art History professors Mary-Ann Kokoska, Erika Osborne, Johnny Plastini, and Eleanor Sabin come together in this exhibition to create a visual narrative through a nuanced portrayal of the natural world. The exhibition sheds light on the intricate interplay between humanity and the environment.

 

These works hold profound reflections on the vulnerability and resilience of our ecosystem. The mark making of each artist captures diverse terrains, while unveiling the inherent fragility these environments embody.

Natural Areas Event: Eagle Watch w/ Special Guest Rocky Mountain Raptor Program

Where: Fossil Creek Reservoir - Approximate address is 3340 Carpenter Road. The entrance to Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area is on Carpenter Road/ CR 32, approximately one mile west of I-25, or two miles east of Timberline on the north side of Carpenter Road; When: January 20, 3:00pm - 4:30pm, drop-in at any time during the program Accessibility: Accessible parking and restrooms available. Spotting scopes and best eagle viewing are located about 1/4 - 1/2 mile down a gently sloping, paved and ADA accessible trail. What to Bring: Pets are not permitted at Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area. Please bring binoculars if you have them and dress warmly. Program Description: Bald eagles from the north make Fort Collins their winter home. They spend nights in communal roosts in cottonwood trees near the reservoir. Volunteer Naturalists are stationed at the viewing pier and explain the eagles’ natural history and help visitors view them through spotting scopes and binoculars. Drop in any time during these programs. They are free and no registration is required, but if you sign up here you'll receive email reminders and notices of cancellations. If temperatures are below freezing, or it’s windy or foggy, the Eagle Watches may be canceled. Be sure to visit www.fcgov.com/naturalareas for weather cancellations and updates before you go. Masks will not be required, as this is an outdoor event. However, please practice physical distancing whenever possible. Stay home if you are sick.

For Wrapped in Meaning, artists Shelby Shadwell (WY) and Annalee Schorr (CO) both create work inspired by metallic Mylar space blankets. Shelby creates large-scale charcoal drawings where the reflective surfaces shimmer and shine and Annalee uses the blankets as her canvases, utilizing the folds in the blankets as a grid to paint and apply duct tape to create patterns referencing quilts and woven textiles.

Kathryn Knudsen combines traditional media, abstract forms, and found objects to produce an artistic vision with the intent to heal, refashion and beautify. In her contemplative refashioning the world of discarded consumption, the oddness of the shapes, the opalescence of the textures, the quirkiness of the colors become a wholly new experience in itself.
